THE "WELCOME MESSAGE"

WELCOME to HADLOCK, “The Attorney's Voice,” the first line of communication from your Attorney.

During the time that you are involved in this lawsuit with your Attorney, you should expect to receive an email message from us each week, on a regular basis. These messages will usually alternate, with one being educational - regarding How the Civil Lawsuit Process works, and the next one specifically about any movement or progress with your Case.

Your Attorney will work hard and long for you and your Case, but clients very often do not understand how the Legal Process operates, how long it all takes, and the many different activities and considerations that actually take place in order to bring a lawsuit to conclusion. We at "The Attorney's Voice" are here to help you understand the process and to keep you completely up to date with any movement, progress, filings, or communications... plus the current schedule and best guess timetables in your Case.

Next week's message will begin our process with an educational/informative email about how the typical Civil Lawsuit begins and moves through the Courts... so you can get an idea of what you could/should expect.

Thanks again, and Welcome to The Attorney's Voice.

Best regards,

Phillip Hadlock

1st WEEKLY MESSAGE

Hello and good day.

This is your first weekly communication from The Attorney's Voice, and this week it is about how the legal process/Civil Lawsuit begins and operates. We will not over burden you with a ton of details, but we at least want you to have a good, general understanding of this thing – the Civil Lawsuit. So here we go.

Think of your Civil Lawsuit as if it were a train that is leaving the station. It's a train that you are on. Okay. You are sitting in a seat; sitting there not moving, but you are moving because you are on a train, and it's moving – funny; moving and yet not moving. That's how your Civil Lawsuit will go for you. You will be sitting there, feeling like you're not moving (in a sense) and yet the train, (your lawsuit) will be moving.

This train is on a track moving towards a specific destination (a Trial), but there are and will be many considerations along the way; some of these Considerations will be expected, some perhaps not. There will be stops along the way where people get on and people get off. Consider things like the passengers on the train, themselves. The track in front of the train and its condition. Other trains. Cross-traffic, Acts of God like landslides, etc. All these considerations have counterparts in your Civil Lawsuit Structure. It's a process and we will discuss those many considerations in our future email communications. By-the-way, the Engineer.... that's your Attorney.

Thank you and have a good day.

2nd WEEKLY MESSAGE

Hello, and we hope you're doing well.

This is your next weekly message from The Attorney's Voice, the first line of communication from your Attorney. This week we will take a look at what has and is happening with your Case.

If we think about our train ride, then when your Attorney filed (or does file) the “Complaint” (lawsuit) for you at the Courthouse, that's you, your Attorney, and the other guys (the Defendants) on the train leaving the station. So when you all leave the station you certainly are not going very fast, and it takes a bit of time to build up some steam and really get going. It's the same here with your lawsuit, and it's true of any Civil Lawsuit... it does and will take time.

Once your Attorney filed the Complaint (the lawsuit) on your behalf (the Plaintiff) the other side (the Defendant) generally has 30 days to file an “Answer” with the Court and to Serve a full and true copy on you, the “Plaintiff” ("Serve" means to provide or give, and the Answers will actually go to your Attorney and he/she will share with you). This Answer to your Complaint will set out the Defendant's position (their argument) on each of the “Causes of Action” that were declared in your Complaint.

This interaction of Complaint and Answer is the first of many communications between your (the Plaintiff) and the Defendant's Attorneys. Remember that these Attorneys are not emotionally involved in your Case. They speak to each other on an equal and professional basis. This being "emotionally detached" allows the Attorney to make better, more clear decisions about your Case, but it is also what makes people think that Attorneys are cold, and that they don't care... but believe me, your Attorney does care, and he/she will do their very best to win the Case for you. So hold on tight and let's find out what the Defense has to say in their Answer.

This is the beginning of a process that can take, on average anywhere between 3 months and 2+ years, but the majority of Civil Lawsuits settle out of court before the end of the first year. Remember that a Majority is only 51% of the cases, barely more than half, and there is no way to know how long your specific Case will take. Get ready for a ride. We'll see what happens.

Thank you and have a good week.
